Your beginner’s Guide to Living Islam
1. Belief in Allah (Tawheed – Oneness of God)
• Qur’an:
“Say: He is Allah, the One. Allah, the Eternal. He neither begets nor is born. And there is none like Him.”
[Surah Al-Ikhlas 112:1–4]
• Meaning:
Allah is one, eternal, has no partners, no family, no equals. You don’t pray to saints, idols, or “energy”—only Him.
2. Belief in the Angels (Malaikah)
• Qur’an:
“The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers… [They all believe in] Allah, His angels…”
[Surah Al-Baqarah 2:285]
• Meaning:
Angels are real. They’re not symbolic. They don’t have free will. They obey Allah, record deeds, and carry out divine commands.
3. Belief in the Revealed Books
• Qur’an:
“Indeed, We sent down the Torah, in which was guidance and light…”
“And We gave him the Gospel…”
“Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur’an, and indeed, We will be its guardian.”
[Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:44–46, Surah Al-Hijr 15:9]
• Meaning:
Muslims believe in all divine books revealed to prophets: Torah (Musa), Gospel (Isa), Psalms (Dawud), and the Qur’an (Muhammad ﷺ) — only the Qur’an remains preserved.
4. Belief in the Prophets (Nubuwwah)
L• Qur’an:
“We sent messengers before you… some We have mentioned to you and some We have not.”
[Surah Ghafir 40:78]
“Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the seal of the prophets.”
[Surah Al-Ahzab 33:40]
• Meaning:
Allah sent thousands of prophets to all nations. Muhammad ﷺ is the final prophet — no more after him.
5. Belief in the Day of Judgment (Akhirah)
• Qur’an:
“Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection…”
[Surah Aal Imran 3:185]
“That Day, people will proceed in scattered groups to be shown their deeds.”
[Surah Az-Zalzalah 99:6]
• Meaning:
Everyone will be resurrected, judged, and sent to Paradise or Hell based on belief and actions.
6. Belief in Qadr (Divine Decree / Predestination)
• Qur’an:
“Indeed, all things We created with predestination.”
[Surah Al-Qamar 54:49]
“No disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being…”
[Surah Al-Hadid 57:22]
• Meaning:
Allah knows everything — past, present, future. Nothing happens randomly. You still have choice, but Allah’s will is supreme.
7. Belief in the Hereafter and the Unseen (Ghayb)
• Qur’an:
“[This is] the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah — who believe in the unseen…”
[Surah Al-Baqarah 2:2–3]
• Meaning:
Believers trust in what Allah has revealed, even if they haven’t seen it: angels, paradise, hell, the grave, etc..
